David J. Haas, 65, of Kutztown, died peacefully Saturday, February 28, 2015, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was the husband of Leora M. (Schlegel) Haas. They celebrated 43 years of marriage this past December. Born in Maxatawny Township, he was a son of the late Wayne B. Haas and the late Mamie C. (Kern) Haas. David was a member of the United Church of Christ congregation at Zion’s Union Church, Maxatawny. Formerly he was a member and served on the consistory at Saint Peter’s United Church of Christ, Topton.
David was a 1967 graduate of Kutztown Area High School, Kutztown. He attended Ursinus College,
Collegeville, where he was president of Beta Sigma Lambda Fraternity.
David worked as a foundry supervisor over 40 years for the former John Medernach & Co., Inc., Whitehall, a pattern shop and foundry, which was first owned by his late father, then by his late brother, Larry. After the closing of Medernach, David worked in the same capacity at W. D. Pattern, Trappe, PA, two years until his retirement in 2013.
David was a member and past president of Optimist Club of Kutztown. He also coached little league for Kutztown Youth Athletic Association.
Survivors: Wife, Leora; daughter, Laura E. (Haas), with Darek T. Teeters, Zionsville, Ind.; son, Nicholas D.,
husband of Sundena K. (Scholl) Haas, Blandon; sister Christine A. (Haas), widow of Curtis E. Luckenbill,
Kempton and Bonita K. Haas, Reading; brothers, Rev. Dennis W., husband of Thomsa E. (Stewart) Haas,
Grinnell, Iowa, Richard L., husband of Grace C. (Leib Haas, and Timothy N., husband of Susan K. (Kitson)
Haas, both of Kutztown. Other survivors include sistin-law Mary E. (Malone) Haas, widow of predeceased brother, Larry D. Haas, Kutztown; Barbara E. (Falcio widow of predeceased brother, Alan G. Haas, Plymouth Mass. There are also five grandchildren, Kaylee Jane Haas, Adisyn Maye Teeters, Davin James Haas, Cana Darek Teeters and Connor Nicholas Haas; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 7, 2at 10:30 a.m. from Zion’s Union Church, 329 Church
Road, Kutztown. Relatives and friends may call Friday evening, March 6, 2015, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in
Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street Kutztown. There will be no visitation on Saturday in church. The family will greet guests at a gathering
following the memorial service. Inurnment will be
private at the convenience of the family.
